The Webley Mk III is a classic British air rifle with a notable history.
It was originally introduced in 1946 and production continued in various variations of form until 1975.
It features an underlever, tap-loading design, similar to earlier BSA air rifles.
Interestingly, its early trigger design was based on one used in the German Diana model 45.
However, this was shortly changed to a lesser complicated unit for reliability.
Characteristics:
It was produced in .177 and .22 calibres.
Known for its robust construction and high-quality finish.
There were variations in stock materials (birch and walnut) and features such as chequering, sights etc.
Usage,
It was popular for general target shooting and particularly for "bell target" shooting, in those days, a pub-based competitive sport.
The "Supertarget" model, was a specialized target shooting version of this rifle.
The Webley Mk III represents a significant period in British airgun manufacturing history,
and it is considered one of the classic Air Rifles, of all time.
It is very much valued by collectors and those who want a long-lasting reliable workhorse.
Here we have a superb very late example of the third series of this weapon produced circa 1961before the site mount was fitted.
The metalwork and stock are in excellent condition with very few marks, and it is in full working order.
