This is an extremely rare Pistol, so much so that not much is known about it. As far as we can tell it was probably made by Frank Clarke in Birmingham between 1916 and 1926.
From what we know there were 7 variants Marks 1 to 7 of which Mark 5 was the most popular. although the Mark 1 was very different in that the cocking rod was front mounted on the action.
This is the Mark 6 version, which has adjustable sear engagement, and to cock it, the push rod housed in the back of the pistol grip, is raised up through 80 degrees and the breach section rotated through 90 degrees to the open position,
then the push rod is pushed in until the trigger cocks, before being extracted and a pellet inserted into the breach and closed.
The push rod is then returned to the rest position within the stock groove. Now the Pistol is ready to Fire.
The first picture shows it in the pre- cocking position prior to the Push Rod being pushed home to cock it.
As can be seen from the pictures this Pistol is in extremely good condition although there are a few tool marks in the screw heads and on the pistol grip frame that I noticed.
